THE ROUTE: Starting from the Cwm Idwal visitor centre, we ascend the northeast ridge of Y Garn (946m) for incredible views over the valley. After a descent to the high mountain lake of Llyn y Cwn, we tackle the rocky slopes of Glyder Fawr, the highest point of the day at 1001m. We then traverse the weird and wonderful moonscape of the plateau, passing the splintered shards of Castell y Gwynt to reach the summit of Glyder Fach and its famous Cantilever Stone. The 12km circular route involves 1000m of ascent and returns via the stepped paths of Cwm Bochlwyd.
