The Tarren Hills

75 British pounds
Forestry Road Entrance, Corris Uchaf, SY20 9RQ

The Tarren Range: The Hidden Mountains All 2026 open group places are now sold out. Private bookings may be available by request through the Private Guiding tab in the menu. The Tarren Range sits in the wild upland between Cadair Idris and the Afon Dyfi. With the two 2,000ft summits of Tarren y Gesail and Tarrenhendre, these are among the most southerly mountains in Eryri. This is quiet southern Eryri at its best: steep forested valleys, open grassy ridges, big views and a strong sense of being hidden in plain sight. THE ROUTE Beginning in Corris Uchaf, the full circuit is around 20km with roughly 1000 to 1400m of ascent, depending on the final route choice. We move from forest tracks and steep-sided valleys onto high, sweeping ridges linking the main summits. If the group is moving well and conditions allow, there may be the option to include Graig Goch for a longer day. The exact line will depend on the weather, group and underfoot conditions, but expect a substantial mountain walk with rough ground, changing terrain and a quieter feel than the better-known northern ranges. HIGHLIGHTS The Southern Summits: Link Tarren y Gesail and Tarrenhendre, two of the most southerly high summits in Eryri. Cadair Idris Views: A close and dramatic view across to the Cadair Idris massif. Remote Ridges: High grassy ridges with big space, wide skies and views towards Pumlumon and mid Wales. Hidden in Plain Sight: A mountain area that many people drive past without ever really noticing. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE This can be a strenuous day, especially if the full set of summits is included. You should be comfortable with a mountain walk of around 20km, significant ascent and some rough or pathless ground. WHAT’S INCLUDED A full day of expert guiding in a small group. Coaching on movement, pacing and route judgement on rough mountain ground. Pre-event advice on kit, travel and local logistics. PRIVATE BOOKINGS The 2026 open group date is sold out, but the Tarren Range can sometimes be arranged as a private day. Private Mountain Days start from £325. Head to the Private Guiding tab in the menu and choose Private Mountain Day. Final prices are confirmed after your request, depending on the group, route and logistics.
