The Rhinogydd 700s: The Rugged Traverse 2026 Open Group Dates: Sunday 9th August 2026 (3 spaces left) Friday 28th August 2026 (2 spaces left) £75 per person | Small Group Journey | Guaranteed to Run The Rhinogydd 700s is one of the toughest day walks in Eryri. This ambitious mountain day links the four 700 metre summits of the range, giving a serious taste of the roughest terrain in Wales. If you want quiet mountains, physical ground and a long day away from the obvious routes, this is one of the strongest choices in the Mountain Craft calendar. THE ROUTE Starting near Llanbedr, we cover around 20km with roughly 1500m of ascent over 8 to 9 hours. Expect heather, boulders, rocky steps, small crags, pathless sections and constant changes in pace. This is not a fast trail day. The terrain demands concentration, patience and steady movement from start to finish. The exact line will depend on the weather, group and underfoot conditions, but the aim is a full four-summit traverse of the Rhinogydd 700m tops. HIGHLIGHTS The Four 700m Summits: A complete linkup of the highest Rhinogydd tops in one demanding mountain day. Rough Mountain Ground: Heather, rock, boulders and broken ground make this feel much bigger than the distance suggests. Quiet, Serious Terrain: A far wilder experience than the busier Eryri routes, with a strong sense of remoteness throughout. Big Views: On a clear day, views stretch to the northern 3000s, Cadair Idris, the Mawddach, the Irish Sea and the Llŷn Peninsula. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE This is a physically demanding day, even for regular hill walkers. You should be comfortable on steep, rough, rocky and pathless terrain, with the stamina for 20km or more of heavy-going mountain walking. This is not suitable as a first mountain day. WHAT’S INCLUDED A full day of expert guiding in a small group. Coaching on movement, pacing and route judgement on rough mountain ground. Pre-event advice on kit, travel and local logistics. PRIVATE BOOKINGS Looking for a private Rhinogydd 700s day or a different date? Head to the Private Guiding tab in the menu and choose Private Mountain Day. Private Mountain Days start from £325, with the final price confirmed after your request depending on the group, route and logistics.
