THE LAB

A testing ground for Mountain Craft’s rougher ideas.

Small-group mountain experiments built around friction, isolation, awkward terrain, route uncertainty and deliberate discomfort.

Some are single-day field tests. Some are full disconnects. All are designed for people more interested in attention, judgement and experience than comfort.

Experiment #000: The Solstice Blackout

Status: Complete

A 24-hour forced disconnect during the Summer Solstice at a withheld location in Eryri.

No phones.
No client cameras.
Location released 12 hours before.
No one else seen in 24 hours.
Camp chosen on the hill.
Sunset, darkness, dawn, solstice, return.

Four participants spent 24 hours off-grid in a remote, pathless environment, carrying their own overnight kit and experiencing the exact moment of the solstice in complete isolation.

Documented by George Reese, with physical prints to follow.

This established the baseline. Future Lab releases won’t always look the same.
