THE NORTH RIDGE OF TRYFAN: THE SCRAMBLER’S PEAK 2026 OPEN GROUP AVAILABILITY Wednesday 9th September 2026 New date added Recent sold-out dates: Friday 10 July and Tuesday 4 August. £95 per person | Strict 1:4 ratio | Guaranteed to run Tryfan is one of the great scrambling mountains of Wales: rough, hands-on, complex, and far more serious than its distance suggests. This is a small-group guided ascent of Tryfan, usually by the North Ridge, with careful coaching and route choices made around the weather, conditions and group. Around 8km and 700m ascent, but the ground is rocky, uneven and continuously engaging. We move steadily, deliberately, and without rushing the technical sections. THE ROUTE The exact line depends on the day. We usually ascend the North Ridge and descend by the South Ridge or Western Gully. Other options may include the Heather Terrace, Eastern Traverse Path, or a different line if conditions make that the better mountain day. The aim is simple: a proper Tryfan scrambling day, finishing on one of the most distinctive summits in Eryri. CORE HIGHLIGHTS The North Ridge: one of the finest Grade 1 scrambling lines in the UK. Adam and Eve: the iconic twin summit stones on Tryfan’s highest point. Small group movement: strict 1:4 ratio, allowing space for coaching, judgement and steady movement on exposed ground. WHY BOOK WITH MOUNTAIN CRAFT? Tryfan is a maze of rock, ribs, gullies and tempting wrong turns. The value is not just reaching the summit, but learning how to move well, choose good lines, and make calm decisions on rough ground. This is not a big group hike. It is a proper mountain day on serious terrain. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE You need strong hill fitness, a steady head for heights, and the ability to move on rocky, uneven ground for several hours. Some previous scrambling or exposed mountain experience is strongly recommended. If you are completely new to scrambling, get in touch first and I can point you towards a better starting point.
