SOLITUDE 001: ARENIG FAWR & MOEL LLYFNANT Saturday 10th October 2026 £75 per person | Maximum 6 | Jacob-led | Guaranteed to Run Solitude is a numbered collection of mountain days chosen because I think they are genuinely worth doing. Usually quieter, rougher and a little less obvious than the classic Eryri routes, each edition explores a different corner of the mountains in a small group. For Solitude 001 we head into the Arenig range for a journey over Arenig Fawr and Moel Llyfnant. THE ROUTE Starting near Llyn Celyn, we follow the old track towards Llyn Arenig Fawr before climbing beneath the dark cliffs of Simdde Ddu to Arenig Fawr. From the summit we continue across rougher, more open country towards Moel Llyfnant, creating a substantial circuit of around 16km with roughly 900m of ascent. Expect wet ground, rough paths, pathless sections and long stretches where we are unlikely to see many other people. For a strong group in good conditions, there may be the option to extend the journey further towards Gallt y Daren. WHY THIS DAY? Arenig Fawr is one of the great overlooked mountains of central Eryri. Its long summit ridge, isolated lake, wartime history and views across a huge sweep of North Wales give it a character quite different from the better-known ranges. Adding Moel Llyfnant turns it into a proper mountain journey rather than simply an out-and-back summit day. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE You should have reasonable hill fitness and be comfortable with a full mountain day on rough, wet and sometimes pathless ground. Previous hill walking experience is strongly recommended. No scrambling experience is required. WHAT’S INCLUDED A full mountain day led by Jacob in a maximum group of six. Route choice, pacing and mountain judgement throughout the day. Pre-event advice covering kit, weather, travel and meeting arrangements. PRIVATE BOOKINGS Looking for a private Arenig day, a different date or something completely different? Private Mountain Days are available throughout the year from £375.
