Arenig Fawr & Moel Llyfnant

75 British pounds
Arenig, Bala, LL23 7PB (Lay-by Opposite Gravel Farm Track)

The Arenig Traverse: The Central Wilderness 2026 Open Group Dates: Saturday 21st March 2026 Wednesday 26th August 2026 £75 per person | Small Group Journey | Guaranteed to Run The Arenig mountains are seriously overlooked, especially considering their prominent position right in the heart of the national park. Arenig Fawr (854m) is the highest of the range, appearing as a long, distinct double summit from the west. Moel Llyfnant (750m) offers a wild and remote contrast, providing a pure mountain experience away from the busier central peaks. THE ROUTE: Starting near Llyn Celyn, just ten minutes from Bala, we follow a moorland track to the dark waters and tiny bothy of Llyn Arenig Fawr. We ascend the shoulder of Y Castell to reach the summit of Arenig Fawr before crossing rougher, less-trodden terrain to the top of Moel Llyfnant. The 16km loop involves 900m of ascent, but the challenging terrain underfoot makes this a substantial day out. CORE HIGHLIGHTS: Unspoilt Summits: Reach the top of Arenig Fawr, a peak easily spotted from the summit of Snowdon but far less frequented. History and Heritage: Visit the Second World War air crash memorial and the steep, dramatic cliffs of Simdde Ddu. The Extra Mile: For strong groups, we have the option to include Gallt y Daren (619m), extending the journey to over 20km for a truly epic day of summit bagging. WHY BOOK ARENIG FAWR WITH MOUNTAIN CRAFT? The Solitude Factor: This range is a haven for those seeking peace. You will experience a sense of remoteness on Moel Llyfnant that is hard to match in Wales. Expert Coaching: The mix of good tracks and pathless, rough ground provides an ideal environment to practice movement skills and navigation. Guaranteed to Run: Your booking is secure. We do not cancel due to low participant numbers, so you can commit to your training with total confidence. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: This is a physically demanding day. You should be comfortable on pathless and rocky terrain with the stamina for a 16km mountain walk. WHATS INCLUDED: A full day of expert guiding in a small, personal group. Professional coaching on mountain skills and movement. Pre-event advice on local travel and the best Bala-based accommodation. PRIVATE BOOKINGS: Looking for a bespoke date or a private group?
