The Nantlle Ridge

The Nantlle Ridge is a classic but unique mountain route on the very western edge of Eryri/Snowdonia. There is a perfect balance of accessible walking with a mix of hands-on-rock scrambling that is never too difficult. The Nantlle Ridge is a satisfying line that runs the entire length of the valley and should be on everyone's list. Meeting in Rhyd Ddu we will be walking along the ridge end-to-end to the small village of Nebo. Following the ridge in it's entirety is around 15km with 1000m of ascent as we cross the 7 summits along the way, the highest point being Craig Cwm Silyn at 734m. The terrain consists of rocky mountain paths, grassy & heather ridges plus some simple scrambling that is fairly short-lived. From the start at Rhyd Ddu there is a fairly steep start up to the first summit, Y Garn, but from then on the ridge is undulating with only 100-200 metres or so climbed for each of the remaining summits. This stunning ridge walk looks west towards the Irish Sea & the incredible Llyn Peninsula for most of its way, with Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon in view over your shoulder. Many people say that they have completed the Nantlle Ridge but it is often cut short to return to the start which is a shame. Make the most of being guided along the whole ridge which includes 7 major summits! Advice regarding local travel & accommodation - whilst transport back to the start is not provided, we will make arrangements as a group once numbers are finalised, you will not be stranded! Required Experience: This is a physically demanding day, even for seasoned mountain walkers. You should be comfortable on pathless & rocky terrain plus experience of walking 15km+ in a day.
