The Berwyn Range: The High Frontier 2026 Open Group Dates: Good Friday 3rd April 2026 £75 per person | Small Group Journey | Guaranteed to Run The Berwynion occupy a vast upland area across Powys and Denbighshire. These are serious mountains. The summit of Cadair Berwyn (832m) is the highest peak in Wales outside of any National Park. It is a special location where the eastern hills drop toward Shropshire while the peaks of Eryri dominate the western horizon. THE ROUTE: We begin at the famed Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall. While the falls are a major tourist attraction, few visitors ever venture beyond the base of the water into the mountains themselves. We ascend past the craggy east face of Moel Sych to reach the Berwyn ridge, traversing north to the high point of Cadair Berwyn and the remote top of Cadair Bronwen. The return journey follows the broad south ridge, finishing with a dramatic viewpoint overlooking the falls from above. This is a significant day covering 14km with nearly 1000m of ascent. CORE HIGHLIGHTS: Beyond the Waterfall: Experience one of the Seven Wonders of Wales before leaving the crowds behind for the untrodden ridges above. The Highest Frontier: Stand on the highest ground in Wales outside the National Park boundaries. Massive Scale: Enjoy the immense sense of scale provided by the broad, high level ridges that define this range. WHY BOOK THE BERWYNION WITH MOUNTAIN CRAFT? The Solitude Factor: While thousands gather at the base of the falls, the summits of the Berwyn remain remarkably quiet. You will enjoy a level of peace and isolation that is hard to find on more famous peaks. Expert Coaching: The rolling plateau and high ridges provide the perfect terrain to develop navigation skills and mountain pacing with a professional leader. Guaranteed to Run: Your booking is secure. We do not cancel due to low participant numbers, ensuring your Good Friday plans are confirmed. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: This is a demanding day. You should be comfortable on rocky and occasionally pathless terrain, with the stamina for 1000m of ascent and 14km of mountain walking. WHATS INCLUDED: A full day of expert guiding in a small, personal group. Professional coaching on mountain skills and movement. Pre-event advice on local travel and Tanat Valley accommodation. PRIVATE BOOKINGS: Bespoke dates available from £275. Have questions about fitness, kit, or weather? Scroll down to the FAQs below.
