The Moel Hebog Circuit: The Western Escape 2026 Open Group Date: Tuesday 25th August 2026 £75 per person | Small Group Journey | Guaranteed to Run The Moel Hebog range sits directly across the valley from Yr Wyddfa, giving a quieter and rougher alternative to the busiest mountains in northern Eryri. This 12km circuit takes in Moel Hebog, Moel yr Ogof and Moel Lefn, with the bonus rocky summit of Castell before descending through Beddgelert Forest. It is a rugged, varied mountain day with steep climbs, rocky ground, quiet ridges and big views across the Yr Wyddfa massif. THE ROUTE Starting from Beddgelert, we cover around 12km with over 900m of ascent. The day begins with a steep climb onto Moel Hebog, followed by a rough skyline traverse across Moel yr Ogof and Moel Lefn. Expect broken blocks, awkward steps, rough paths and sections where the best line is not always obvious. The exact route will depend on the weather, group and underfoot conditions, but the aim is a full circuit that gives a proper taste of this quieter western side of Eryri. HIGHLIGHTS Moel Hebog Summit: Reach the 783m summit above Beddgelert, with one of the best views back towards Yr Wyddfa. Rough Western Terrain: A more rugged feel than the busier central routes, with rocky ground, complex little steps and quieter ridgelines. Moel yr Ogof and Moel Lefn: A satisfying linkup across a varied skyline, with changing views and constant mountain interest. Forest Finish: Descend through Beddgelert Forest after the high ground, giving the day a strong sense of journey. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE This is a physically demanding mountain day. You should be comfortable with steep climbs, rough paths, rocky ground and uneven descents. You do not need scrambling experience, but you should be sure footed and happy moving carefully over broken mountain terrain. WHAT’S INCLUDED A full day of expert guiding in a small group.
