013: The Migneint & Carnedd y Filiast

SOLITUDE 013: THE MIGNEINT & CARNEDD Y FILIAST Saturday 27th November 2027 £95 per person | Maximum 6 | Jacob-led Solitude is a numbered collection of mountain days chosen because I think they are genuinely worth doing. For Solitude 013 we head into the Migneint from Ysbyty Ifan, linking one of the quietest upland landscapes in North Wales with Carnedd y Filiast. THE ROUTE Starting in Ysbyty Ifan, we’ll follow old drovers’ tracks out of the village before leaving the easier lines behind and heading onto the open moorland of the Migneint. From there, we’ll build a full circuit taking in Carnedd y Filiast and the surrounding high ground. Expect rough grass, peat, bog, faint tracks and long stretches of pathless terrain. The exact line will depend on weather, ground conditions and the group. WHY THIS DAY? This is my local mountain country and one of my favourite places to spend a day. The Migneint is broad, quiet and wonderfully serene, with huge views across the surrounding ranges and a real feeling of space. It is also rich in wildlife and crossed by old drovers’ routes that give the landscape a strong sense of history. Carnedd y Filiast adds a proper summit objective, but the real appeal is the journey through the country around it. This is about as close to pure Solitude as the series gets. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE You should have reasonable hill fitness and be comfortable with a full day on wet, boggy, rough and often pathless terrain. Previous hill walking experience is strongly recommended. No scrambling experience is required. WHAT’S INCLUDED A full mountain day led by Jacob in a maximum group of six.
