Scrambling is the middle ground between walking and climbing: the terrain is rocky & steep, you will use your hands at time to aid your progress up the rock and the situations can feel high & exposed at times. Scrambling grades are grade one, two & three; grade one is the easiest and is the first step up from walking to climbing on rocks, grade two is becoming more serious and may require rock climbing equipment & tactics and grade three is the hardest - sometimes involving sections of difficult rock climbing where mountaineering skills are necessary. The routes that we take on our guided sessions are always a maximum of grade one.

No extra equipment is required for our guided scrambling days but your regular mountain clothing, footwear and emergency kit will be needed, check the Adventure Smart UK kit list before you book and contact us using the button at the top of the page if you have any questions or concerns.

For rock climbing sessions we provide technical equipment for you to use, including a harness & helmet. Good outdoor footwear & clothing will be needed and you must ensure that any technical equipment of your own that you wish to use is in good condition.

Discover Scrambling is an ideal first step into tackling mountain scrambles but a solid base of mountain walking experience is necessary - a head for heights, confident movement on rocky terrain and risk analysis are required. Scrambling Solitude is geared towards those who are looking to climb alternative grade one routes after completing the popular classics.

Discover Rock Climbing is suitable for complete beginners and also those with some basic climbing skills who want to improve. Our rock climbing sessions are always on single-pitch climbs with no technical terrain to access the crags.

We are flexible with scrambling & climbing venues as well as meeting locations across North Wales, depending on your base and preferences. Most of the classic grade one scrambles that we would consider for Discover Scrambling are in the Snowdon & Glyderau ranges so Llanberis, Bethesda & Capel Curig would be the best places to meet.

Scrambling Solitude gives us more options stretching from the Carneddau in the north to Cadair Idris in the south. Discover Rock Climbing offers even more flexibility, as well as the mountain crags of Snowdonia we can also consider coastal or inland crags across Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire & Flintshire.

Even though we can deal with some inclement weather, there are times when it makes more sense to move the climbing or scrambling location to a location with a more favorable forecast or even an indoor climbing session, which we can agree on prior to the day. In very rare cases where the weather is too dangerous for your booking to go ahead then we will refer to our Booking Terms & Conditions, there is also a section regarding risk.
