The iconic knife-edged ridge of Crib Goch, walking off of Garnedd Ugain to the surprise of the walkers on the Llanberis path and the sheer scale of walking over the top of Lliwedd's mighty cliffs - it really doesn't get better... Mountain Craft's 'The Complete Snowdon Horseshoe' essentially follows the natural ridge line, the purists line, and includes the additional summits of Craig Fach & Gallt y Wenallt for a satisfying and complete route of 12.5km & total ascent of just over 1200 metres. Meeting at or near Pen-y-Pass (parking/transport options to be discussed in advance), close to the village of Llanberis, an unlikely path takes us from near the start of the Miner's Track to the first summit of Craig Fach. Next is the exposed but stunning Crib Goch, definitely a highlight of the day, followed by the ridge of Crib y Ddysgl and its summit Garnedd Ugain. Easier terrain takes us past the summit of Snowdon where a steep descent leads us to the rocky ridge-like mountain of Lliwedd. Instead of taking the usual descent straight down to the Miner's Track we carry on along the crest of the ridge as it slowly drops, becoming less rocky and more grassy. The final summit of Gallt y Wenallt juts out and overlooks the surrounding valleys, it is a special place to soak in the view before our final descent towards the Miner's Track & Pen-y-Pass by crossing Cwm Dyli and the power station pipeline.
